What is Luxory Fashion?

Luxury isn’t what it used to be. Shifting consumer values of younger generations prioritise trends over classic symbols. “The biggest change I've seen is that luxury brands are focused on being more fashionable and trendy.

What is Luxory Fashion?

Luxury is created from immaterial concepts, majorly the perception of what is “in” and is prescribed by a strata of society also valued in immaterial terms, however, luxury products exist in a physical reality, and they have standards that have to be met and features they share in common.

As 2023 forced us into confinement to (re)consider our callousness, consciousness and conscientiousness; conversations began to shift. For the fashion industry, the year accelerated urgent reforms, and set in motion wheels of inevitable change. How lasting or fleeting these will be, only time will tell.

But one thing is for certain: there’s no mindlessly rewinding to the old guard anymore. The way forward has been declared a more thoughtful one; particularly for the luxury industry. Let’s examine the word ‘Luxury’ for a moment. The dictionary-approved definitions vary from ‘the fact of enjoying special and expensive things, particularly food and drink, clothes and places’, to ‘a state of great comfort or elegance, especially when involving great expense.’

In 2023, these ring hollow as rather one-dimensional vantage points. Luxury was already evolving beyond being the prerogative of just a privileged few in the pre-pandemic world. Today, many of its previous associations and subliminal snobbishness have become increasingly irrelevant.

Nevertheless, it is important to note that each brand places extra focus on only one of the features shown below:

Craftsmanship - This feature is the one that is the most attached to luxury, after all, the majority of brands associate themselves to the “hand-made” feature, and make sure to add their long heritage to their brand narrative. An example of a luxury item that emphasizes craftsmanship is the  handbag.

Exclusivity - Uniqueness and limited editions are the drivers of luxury. In the history of luxury we see how dresses worn by the upper classes could not be simply replicated by other tailors. Nowadays luxury has become paradoxically massive, but it still remains prescribed by celebrities and such and items have a short sales cycle, providing that sense of scarcity needed to create luxury.

Materials - Luxury items have to be made out of high quality raw materials. Some leather, jewelry, and prêt-à-porter brands pay special attention to the materials or minerals used, nevertheless what is the most interesting in current times is the change in the perception of what a high quality material entails. When as in history we have seen exotic animal furs or feathers perceived at high quality we are currently moving towards the most technologically innovative materials.

Design - Luxury and design are concepts that are completely attached, what makes any luxury item stand out is its design, even in the era of mass production, innovation and uniqueness is still possible. Luxury consumers just want to be surprised, and brands keep on delivering in this regard.

How is Luxory Fashion Created?

When you say or hear the word “Luxury” or “Luxury Brands” you will probably think about brands or labels like Armani, Dior, Balenciaga, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Prada and Tiffany come quickly to mind. Let us define luxury. Luxury brands share these features: they are expensive, high quality and long lasting, and have a limited distribution. You can wear a luxury brand garment several years after purchase and still get admiring glances. That’s because the design itself of a luxury garment is often futuristic and pleasing.

Luxury items are made of high-grade materials, so they last longer than the copies they inspire. Generally, they come from design studios which have a consistent imprint on the fashion items they create. Clients can also expect craftsmanship that is the highest in the industry.

What Are Luxury Brands?

Luxury is more than beautiful design and well-made workmanship. Many beautiful garments are well made but considered very common since they are very accessible. Zara, for instance, has many stores throughout the world full of attractive merchandise.

The products are easily available and affordable. Their success is great because the merchandise is so accessible. In contrast to luxury items, they flood the market.

What Are Luxury Brands?

Luxury brands sell goods or services that are privileged, expensive and sought after. While luxury goods are often made from high-quality materials, their cost far exceeds the materials and effort required to produce them. The high cost of goods from luxury brands reflects a premium that consumers of means are willing to pay to own the luxury label.

In Luxury Brand Management: A World of Privilege, authors Michel Chevalier and Gerald Mazzalovo define luxury brands as “selective and exclusive” and having “the desirable attributes of being scarce, sophisticated and in good taste.”

What are Luxury Fashion Brands?

Luxury fashion brands sell upscale, sought-after and expensive clothing, shoes and accessories. Examples of popular luxury fashion brands include Louis Vuitton, Burberry, Hermes, Salvatore Ferragamo, Gucci and Prada.

While the most exclusive luxury brands sell truly expensive and uniquely stylish pieces, fashion houses from Salvatore Ferragamo to Hugo Boss have lowered the entry price point for luxury fashion, creating a spectrum of exclusivity and price points depending on the label.

Louis Vuitton - Considered the most valuable luxury brand in the world, French fashion house Louis Vuitton was founded in Paris in 1854. Known for its iconic “LV” Monogram and Damier pattern, the luxury giant is a flagship piece of the largest fashion brand in the world LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton group.

Dolce & Gabbana - For Italian fashion, 1985 became a landmark year when Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana founded Dolce & Gabbana in a town near Milan. From leather pantsuits to the bodysuit and crystal bikini worn by Kim Kardashian on Instagram, the company is best known for sensual, playful, and powerful women’s clothes, including vivid dresses inspired by the warmth and vitality of Sicily.

Givenchy - The most famous Givenchy garment is Audrey Hepburn’s black dress in “Breakfast at Tiffany’s,” an enchanting creation that reflects the profound influence Hubert de Givenchy exerted on luxury fashion since launching his Parisian brand in 1952. The company continues to produce chic and playful attire for women, such as little denim dresses and asymmetrical pleated skirts.

Armani - Giorgio Armani, who launched his Milan-based company in 1975, made his menswear a part of pop culture by designing clothes for a variety of films, including “Goodfellas,” “The Untouchables,” and “The Wolf of Wall Street.” Although the company excels at a range of luxury apparel and goods, its most distinctive item remains the Armani suit, which has always exuded power and class in its many iterations across decades. Armani is also an excellent choice for luxury neckties.

Dior - The recently reopened flagship store for Dior, established in Paris in 1947, showcases how Christian Dior revolutionized fashion with his New Look, the full-skirted, glamorous designs for women that launched his brand to fame. These days, the highlights of Dior women’s attire include elegant Lady Dior handbags and a special collection, the 30 Montaigne Wardrobe, which pays homage to the brand’s Parisian roots.

Yves Saint Laurent - Founded in the 1960s by Yves Saint Laurent and his partner, Pierre Berge, the Saint Laurent brand was among the first to promote ready-to-wear clothes for high fashion. The legendary designer also revolutionized women’s fashion with astonishing new looks, including a feminine and classy tuxedo.

Gucci - Gucci has become slang for feeling great, which is the way people typically feel when they own a luxury item from this Italian brand. When Guccio Gucci opened his first shop in Florence in 1921, he focused on leather luggage, and leather remains the foundation of the most iconic Gucci items to this day, including handbags and belts with the famous double-G motif.

Chanel - One of the most famous fashion houses in the world, Paris fashion house Chanel is perhaps best known for popularizing the Little Black Dress, Chanel Number 5 perfume and former First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy’s pink suit. Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel, who was born into poverty, founded her eponymous label in 1910. “Chanel was the pied piper who led women from complicated, uncomfortable clothes to a bone-simple, uncluttered, and casual look,” wrote Axel Madsen in Chanel: A Woman of Her Own.

Women´s Luxury Raincoats

 Womens luxury raincoats

Alongside a windproof umbrella and your favorite pair of rain boots, a great raincoat will help you brave the elements and look good doing it. It’s an essential item to own, whether you’re encountering the occasional drizzly day or jumping over puddles for half of the year.

Women’s Solid Raincoats

Women’s Solid Raincoat Jackets - We all hate when it rains, but what could be better than looking good in the rain? If you have ever been thinking about this…

We can tell you that you are not the only one and we have a solution for you! They are here for you to take a look at!

Our favorite raincoats include nostalgic vintage-inspired anoraks, hardshell hiking jackets, and everything in between. Below, find the best women’s raincoats for every occasion and budget, from stylish minimalist coats to utilitarian ponchos.

Women’s Raincoats & What Are We Looking For?

Comfort: Because your raincoat should keep you comfortable as well as dry, we looked for options with lots of (preferably zippered) pockets, underarm ventilation, and adjustable hoods.

Weight and length: We sought out a range of coats, jackets, anoraks and ponchos in varying lengths and weights, from classy trench coats to three-layer Gore Tex hard shells with stormproof hoods. The raincoat you choose will depend on its intended use: A mid-length, mid-weight jacket is ideal for dashing between subway stations, but when hiking, you probably just want something lightweight that protects your core.

Water resistance: In order to be 100 percent waterproof, a raincoat must be constructed from an impenetrable material like vinyl, plastic, or rubber. This style of raincoat is perfectly appropriate for city commutes, but not so much hiking or other athletic activities.

Some of our favorites are also made from technical fabrics like Gore-Tex. A water-resistant jacket should keep you dry in all but the most extreme cases, and it will also pack down and breathe much better than a traditional rubber coat. For extra protection against the elements, we also favored raincoats featuring reinforced seams, elasticized or velcro wrist cuffs, and covered zippers.
